Annual Permaculture & Holistic Land Management Workshop

May 6-8, Friday to Sunday

Permaculture is an approach to land management and design based on what is observed in flourishing natural ecosystems.

It can turn desert into oasis, bringing life back to the land for thousands of years after we’re gone.

It encompasses regenerative agriculture, earthworks, community living, and every way humans interact with the environment and each other.

What Permaculture can do for you…

  • Defend your land from forest fires

  • Design & assess your property

  • Conserve water (replenish aquifers, create ponds & reservoirs, & store energy)

  • Lower the amount of time, labor & expenses needed in your garden/farm

  • Create a food forest

  • Find solutions for your possible gardening, farming or land management issues

  • Pest and predator control

  • Create an intentional living community

  • Increase the health of your soil, land and increase biodiversity

  • Grow year-round through winter

  • Build with natural building materials

  • Animal systems, grazing patterns, etc

  • And so much more…

You’ll be learning with the legendary Ryan Hill!

Ryan is one of the top permaculture consultants in the world. He was mentored by Geoff Lawton, the world’s foremost authority on Permaculture.

He has created incredible projects in several countries, he turns desert into a lush oasis and has trained over 150,000 people.

Assisted by Jaymie and Shelby, the founders of Azhen Sanctuary.

The road in is government maintained year-round and is accessible with all vehicle types.

Schedule

Arrive Friday at noon, get acquainted with the space, give your offering to the land, and dive right into a tour of Azhen’s 160 acre permaculture plan!

Azhen is route to becoming one of the worlds largest earthworks, water catchment, and fire defence demonstration sites of its kind.

Dinner and snacks will be served.

Wake up Saturday to a beautiful breakfast at the long table and then share about your project or anything specific you’d like to learn and talk with Ryan.

This is a small group setting where you get to learn from other peoples questions and scenarios too.

Head out and spend the rest of the weekend gaining hands-on practical knowledge and learning…

  • Working with soil and setting up garden beds on contour along a hillside

  • Several methods of planting several types of vegetables and orchard trees

  • Watering systems and water management

  • Anything else in particular that you’re looking to learn about

Spend the evenings socializing with like-minded people and getting one-on-one consultation from Ryan.

Then hit the hydrotherapy spa with saunas, plunge tubs, and outdoor showers!

A grand brunch will available all-day Sunday until you depart Sunday afternoon usually around 2-3pm, but head out at your leisure.

Feel free to stick around and enjoy the space for a little longer.

Bathrooms, Power & Wifi Amenities

Toilets are pretty fancy and offer similar comfort to a regular on-grid home, with the most modern incineration toilet available.

It gives back to the land and soil in the form of compost.

Showers are currently all outdoor, but indoor showers are coming soon.

Power is available in the common area where the kitchen, lounge, and dining are. It is available for you to charge devices or whatever else you may need.

There is no power in the wall tents for plugging things in, but there are solar powered lights.

Wifi is available with Startlink satellite internet. It is high speed – faster than most regular city wifi. Hold video calls or take a meeting just like at home.

Cell service is not available in the main developed area but if you walk up a hill you’ll get full bars. In the meantime, you can use the Wifi.

Food Preferences

Gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and most food needs are accounted for. Let us know any specific needs after registration.

Produce and ingredients are beyond organic from local farms where we know the owners. Food is curated consciously.

Simple, yet elegant and delicious. See our Food Philosophy for more photos of meals guests rave about.
