On-Site Cook

Come live on-site to help and nourish the team as we bring our 160 acre permaculture plan to life. Enjoy the freedom of being off-grid and out in nature while cooking amazing meals. The On-Site Cook will be accountable for:

  • Cooking Lunch and Dinner Monday - Friday for the team and spouses. Everyone is responsible for cooking their own breakfast during the week and all meals on weekends.

  • Doing dishes and keeping the kitchen area clean and tidy. (we have a dishwasher and big commercial double sink.)

  • Doing grocery runs and ordering to make sure you have what you need. (We order from a lot of farms locally as well as have costco cards for certain bulk things etc.)

  • Must have your own vehicle, cell phone, and laptop or ipad etc.

  • Abide by everyone’s dietary needs. We don’t expect you to cook individual meals for everyone but we can decide on menu items together so it’s easy meals everyone can eat.

  • Systemizing the cooking process and creating weekly menus, order lists, and expense sheets. 

  • Reporting and sharing results in weekly meetings

  • Helping out and learning in other areas

  • Looking after your personal health with weekly fitness and mindfulness goals

Experience & Traits Needed

  • You thoroughly enjoy cooking and getting creative in the kitchen.

  • You enjoy sourcing and supporting local farms the best we can.

  • You like to get things done, do the task well, and fill your time productively (the opposite of not wanting to work and complaining about it)

  • Organisational skills a must

  • Clear communication skills

  • A good sense of humour and playfulness. We work hard but we like to make it fun.

  • A deep enjoyment of integrating nature and it’s systems into our land to keep alternative energy needs as low as possible

Not Needed But A Benefit

  • knowledge and experience catering and systemizing.

  • Ability to operate basic farm equipment like lawn mowers, generators etc.

Live-Work Exchange

  • You are required to work 5 hours a day 5 days a week

  • If you aren’t showing great work ethic and fit during the first 1-3 days we will ask you to leave. We need people who really want to be here, work hard and learn.

  • All main meals will be covered by us. Breakfast during the week you will cook yourself and we will supply the food. Lunch and dinner Monday - Friday you will cook as part of your duties for all staff and spouses. Weekends Everyone is responsible for cooking their own meals! If there are any specific snacks and things you want you will have to provide those yourself.

  • We provide you a private room in a shipping container unit with a double or queen bed, dresser, and desk.

  • There is no power in the rooms. But the main area has power for charging phones and anything else etc.

  • You will have use of all public spaces for washrooms, outdoor shower, cooking, doing dishes, laundry, and the spa
