Live-Work Exchange Assistant Caretaker / General Land Helper

The Assistant Caretaker / General Land Helper will be accountable for:

  • Daily Animal chores feeding the dogs and chickens

  • Making sure the generators and machines are topped up with fuel and daily maintenance and checks are done

  • Keeping the property clean and tidy

  • Keeping sauna clean, stocked with wood, and lit when the team wants to use it.

  • Runs to town to drop off garbage, fill propane, and get any materials needed. Vehicle provided for these runs.

  • General landscaping and beautifying of the property. Could include things like tree maintenance, trail building, planting grass and cover crop, spreading gravel on parking pads and roadways etc

  • Garden watering which will be mostly automated just need to double check there are no issues

  • Prep wall tents for workshops and assist team during workshop.

  • Winter prep helping to chop fire wood, move logs, etc.

  • Working along side our current team to help and learn about building ponds, roadways, forest management, sawmilling, building small structures etc.

  • Helping out and learning in other areas assigned by supervisor

  • Reporting and sharing results in weekly meetings

  • Looking after your personal health with weekly fitness and mindfulness goals

Experience & Traits Needed

  • You like to get things done, do the task well, and fill your time productively (the opposite of not wanting to work and complaining about it)

  • Clear communication skills

  • A good sense of humour and playfulness. We work hard but we like to make it fun.

  • A deep enjoyment of integrating nature and its systems into our land to keep alternative energy needs as low as possible.

  • Have your own cell phone and laptop or ipad etc

Not Needed But A Benefit

  • knowledge and experience managing farms and or off grid projects.

  • Ability to operate basic farm equipment like generators, lawnmowers, side by side, and power tools. etc

  • Ability to operate heavy machinery like excavators, tractors etc.

  • Can hook up and tow a trailer confidently

  • Have your own vehicle

Live-Work Exchange

  • You are required to work 5 hours a day 5 Monday to Friday. 

  • If you aren’t showing great work ethic and fit during the first 1-3 days we will ask you to leave. We need people who really want to be here, work hard and learn.

  • All main meals will be covered by us. Breakfast you will always cook yourself but food will be provided. Depending on staff, if we have an on-site cook at the time lunch and dinner will be cooked for the whole team Monday - Friday. If not, food will be provided and you will cook lunch and dinner yourself or we will all cook together sometimes.  If there are any specific snacks and things you want you will have to provide those yourself. On weekends you will always be responsible for cooking your own food.

  • We provide you a private room in a shipping container unit with a double or queen bed, dresser, and desk.

  • There is no power in the rooms. But the main area has power for charging phones and anything else etc.

  • You will have use of all public spaces for washrooms, outdoor shower, cooking, doing dishes, laundry, and the spa.

Training

  • On-boarding prior to arrival through our online platforms

  • One-on-one on-site training with current team member on tasks to be completed
